Sata’s New Year’s Message

President Michael Sata says the PF government has fulfilled the development targets for 2012.

In his New Year’s message which is scheduled to be broadcast on ZNBC tonight, Persident Sata highlighted the road rehabilitation and construction of health facilities among the achievements.

He further praised donors for their financial support and pledged to make Zambia a better place for all citizens in the years to come.

 

Bellow is President Sata’s national address in full:

 

FELLOW COUNTRY MEN, WOMEN AND THE YOUTH,

 

AS I ADDRESS YOU ON THIS MOMENTOUS NEW YEAR’S EVE, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE ALMIGHTY GOD FOR HIS CONTINUED BLESSINGS AND MERCY UPON US.

 

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT TO GOVERNMENT AND FOR MAINTAINING PEACE AND ORDER DESPITE THEIR POLITICAL DIFFERENCES.

 

AS WE REFLECT ON THE YEAR 2012, IT IS ALSO IMPERATIVE FOR US TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF OUR ACHIEVEMENTS AND CHALLENGES IN 2012 AS A NATION BECAUSE THIS FORMS THE BASIS FOR OUR FUTURE PLANNING AND ACTIONS TO CREATE A BETTER ZAMBIA FOR ALL.

 

FELLOW CITIZENS, IN MY INAUGURAL SPEECH I MADE A PLEDGE TO FULLY COMMIT MYSELF AND MY GOVERNMENT TO THE RULE OF LAW AND ON THE TRANSFORMATION OF POLICIES, INSTITUTIONS AND SYSTEMS TOWARDS BEING CITIZEN CENTRED.

 

I ALSO MADE A SOLEMN PROMISE TO THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA AND OUR PARTNERS, WHO ENTRUST US WITH THEIR RESOURCES, THAT MY GOVERNMENT WILL HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CORRUPTION AND WILL STEADILY TACKLE THIS SCOURGE WITH THE VIGOUR IT DESERVES.

 

CONSEQUENTLY, MY GOVERNMENT REINSTATED THE ABUSE OF OFFICE CLAUSE.

 

FELLOW COUNTRYMEN AND WOMEN, YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME THAT THE RANSITION FROM THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT TO MY GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN MANAGED SUCCESSFULLY. THIS CAN BE NOTED FROM THE VARIOUS GOVERNMENT PROGRAMMES THAT WE CARRIED FORWARD AND THE NEW PROGRAMMES THAT WE INSTITUTED UPON ASSUMING GOVERNMENT, SOME OF WHICH HAVE ALREADY STARTED YIELDING RESULTS.

 

IN THIS SMOOTH TRANSITION, MY GOVERNMENT HAS ALSO PROMOTED INCLUSIVENESS IN THE RUNNING OF GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS.

 

IDENTIFIED AND INCLUDED, ON MERIT, ZAMBIANS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE TO SERVE IN VARIOUS PUBLIC THE PF GOVERNMENT HAS SERVICE POSITIONS.

 

INCLUSIVENESS PROGRAMMES HAS ALSO BEEN EXTENDED TO OUR TRADITIONAL LEADERS, WHOM WE HAVE CONTINUED TO CONSULT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS.

 

IN THE RUNNING OF GOVERNMENT FELLOW CITIZENS LET ME REITERATE THE PLEDGE I MADE TO MAKE ZAMBIA A BETTER PLACE FOR ALL IN LINE WITH OUR PATRIOTIC FRONT VISION WHICH IS, AND I QUOTE: “THE CITIZENS OF THIS GREAT LAND NOT ONLY DESERVE BETTER LIVES BUT ARE ENTITLED TO BETTER LIVES.”

 

THE CHALLENGE OF MY GOVERNMENT IS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE FOR THE NEAR FUTURE, ACCELERATING PROGRESS IN CLOSING DEVELOPMENT GAPS BETWEEN RURAL CREATE DEVELOPMENT AND AND OPPORTUNITIES URBAN AREAS, THROUGH AND TO ACHIEVE ECONOMIC TO SEIZE SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

DIVERSIFICATION, SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION.

 

FURTHERMORE, IN A QUEST TO BRING PUBLIC SERVICES, DECISION MAKING AND DEVELOPMENT CLOSER TO THE PEOPLE, MY GOVERNMENT HAS CREATED NEW DISTRICTS TO HELP DEEPEN DECENTRALISATION AND CONSOLIDATE DEMOCRACY.

THIS PROCESS HAS POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIO- CULTURAL OF POPULAR ACCESSING SERVICES.

 

BENEFITS PARTICIPATION WHICH INCLUDE BY THE PROMOTION MAJORITY FELLOW COUNTRY MEN AND WOMEN AS A WAY TO ENHANCE OUR WELFARE AS A PEOPLE, MY GOVERNMENT HAS COMMENCED MAJOR PROJECTS IN VARIOUS SECTORS. THE NOTABLE ONES ARE:

 

•THE THROUGH THE LINK ZAMBIA 8000; CONSTRUCTION OF THE ROAD NETWORK

 

•THE CONSTRUCTION OF UNIVERSITIES UNDER THE EDUCATION SECTOR TO TRAIN THE MUCH NEEDED SKILLS FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION;

 

•THE GENERATION CAPACITY BY COMMISSIONING MORE HYDRO POWER STATIONS SUCH AS ITEZHI TEZHI, SHIWAG’ANDU AND COMPLETION OF THE EXTENSION TO KARIBA NORTH BANK POWER STATION. IMPROVEMENT OF THE ELECTRICITY

 

•IN THE HAS SETTING EVERY PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL IN AN EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN THE PROVISION OF QUALITY HEALTH CARE. I AM HAPPY TO REPORT THAT ALL PROVINCIAL HEADQUARTERS HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED THEIR INTENSIVE CARE UNITS.

 

AREA STARTED UP OF IMPLEMENTING INTENSIVE HEALTH, CARE THE ITS UNITS GOVERNMENT PROMISE (ICUs) MY GOVERNMENT HAS FURTHER BUDGETED 204 BILLION KWACHA IN THE 2013 BUDGET TO UPGRADE AND MODERNIZE UTH, NDOLA CENTRAL HOSPITAL, KITWE GENERAL HOSPITAL. EACH OF THESE HOSPITALS WILL BE FURTHER EQUIPED WITH STATE OF THE ART CT SCANS TO IMPROVE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

AND REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS REFERRED ABROAD.

 

CENTRAL HOSPITAL AND LIVINGSTONE FELLOW COUNTRY MEN AND WOMEN, ON THE SPORTS SCENE, 2012 HAS BEEN A GREAT YEAR FOR US AS A NATION. I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THE CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS NOT ONLY FOR WINNING THE AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THIS NATION’S HISTORY BUT ALSO FOR BEING VOTED AS BOTH THE BEST SECOND TEAM IN THE WORLD AFTER SPAIN AND AS AFRICA TEAM OF THE YEAR.

 

I ALSO WANT TO EXPRESS MY SATISFACTION FOR OUR COUNTRY’S SUCCESSFUL HOSTING OF THE ZONE 6 GAMES WHERE ZAMBIA REAPED 41 MEDALS AND WAS THIRD IN OVERAL STANDINGS.

 

FINALLY, I WOULD LIKE TO IMPLORE ALL THE CITIZENS TO FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES WITH THE REBASED KWACHA AND GUARD AGAINST UNSCRUPULOUS INDIVIDUALS WHO WOULD LIKE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS TRANSITION.

    I hope the mistakes which appear here are not actually not found in the speech.Anyway,there’snt much substance in the speech.

    Another tick box excercise. Man thinks he is smart by giving an empty speech, face the nation through a press conference so that you can answer questions from the public.
