The Non-Governmental Organization Coordinating Council (NGOCC) says it is surprising to note that politicians do not learn from mistake of others.
NGOCC board chairperson Beatrice Grillo says she foresees a situation where every government that comes will be coming up with a constitution that fits them.
Grillo says the ruling Patriotic Front has a lot to learn from the mistakes of the MMD.
She says it is very clear that the MMD, while in power, tried to tailor a constitution that met its own aspirations which is now haunting them after leaving office.
Grillo says the PF should realize that it will never be in power in perpetuity, but will one day leave.
She says the PF government should make a difference by fulfilling the wishes of the citizens and coming up with a constitution that will stand a taste of time.
She, however, states that government’s silence on the ongoing constitution making process is worrisome and is creating a lot of questions amongst citizens on its commitment to the process.
Grillo adds that the PF risks going down the same way the MMD did if it fails to produce a people-driven constitution.
