Game scouts have shot dead two suspected poachers near Protea hotel farm in Chisamba while the third one has been detained.
Police say The incident happened when the scouts challenged the three men, one of them armed with a greener shortgun found on the farm. The suspects then started firing at the scouts who in turn retaliated, killing two of them on the spot.
One of the deceased persons has been identified as Recknos Ndeleki, aged 30 of Fine Ndeleki Farm in Chisamba while the identity of the other one has not yet been established.
“The incident occurred on the 21st January, 2013, around 11:00 hours in Chisamba. A greener shortgun with five rounds of ammunition has been recovered from the scene while the surviving suspect Webster Chisumpa is in Police custody to help with investigations. The bodies of the deceased are lying in Liteta Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem,” said Elizabeth Kanjela.
In other crime news, police in Sesheke have arrested a 19 year old man Andrew Mukamba of Malundu village for murdering Malindi Kanguy aged 18 of Nakatindi in Sesheke,
The deceased who was stabbed in the chest died upon arrival at Yeta Hospital where it is still lying awaiting postmortem. The incident occurred on 21st January, 2013 around 01:30 hours along Nakatindi Road near Sesheke Police Station.
The suspect has been charged with murder contrary to section 200 of the penal code of the laws of Zambia and will appear in court soon.
In Lusaka,three pedestrians died on the spot after being hit by vehicles along the great east road, Kalikiliki and Buseko respectively.
The first pedestrian Thomas Sitwala aged 25 died after being hit by a Toyota Carina Reg. No. ALF 8437 driven by Lovewell Mwilwa of Mutendere compound.
In Kalikiliki, a 6 year old child died on the spot after being hit by a Toyota Hiace minibus reg. no. ALE 4009 driven by Boniface Mwewa aged 38 of house number 9 Brentwood road.
And a 32 year old man only identified as Kalima died on the spot after being hit by a Toyota Runx Reg. No. ALH 5857 driven by David Sichone adged 33 of Chazanga Compound.
The accidents happened on 21st January, 2013 as the pedestrians were trying to cross the roads at the mentioned spots. The bodies of the deceased are lying in U.T.H Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
In a related development, a 78 year old cyclist Nason Mwansa of Sondashi village in Samfya died on the spot after being hit by a Volvo Truck registration number ALE 7032, trailer number ALE 6585T driven by Simukonda Golden aged 46 of house number 4 Chiwempala road in Chingola.
The accident occurred on 20th January 2013 around 13:00 along Serenje-Samfya road. The cyclist was coming from the same direction with the vehicle and was hit from behind.
The body of the deceased is lying in Samfya Rural Health Center awaiting postmortem.
Another cyclist Justine Chisala aged 41 died after being hit by a Toyota Ceres registration number ALG 1456 driven by Innocent N’gandwe aged 24 of Spark Extension in Mansa. The accident occurred on 21st January, 2013 around 16:15 hours along Samfya-Mansa road.
The accident happened when the driver was driving at high speed and hit the cyclist who was cycling from the same direction with the car.
The body of the deceased is lying in Mansa General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
In Northern Province, a 7 year old boy of Mutale Kabamba village died on the spot after being hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser Reg. No 1716 driven by Stephen Schwarz aged 42 of house number 931 Mbala.
The accident occurred on 21st January, 2013 around 15:40 hours at Ngoli area along the Kasama-Mbala road as the pedestrian was crossing the road.
The body of the deceased is lying in Kasama General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
All the drivers involved in the accidents have since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving contrary to section 161 of the Road Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002 and will appear in court soon.
