Nine people have died of cholera in Luapula Province since the disease broke out last year.
Health deputy minister Christopher Mulenga said the death occurred from December 2012 to 17th January this year.
He said Ministry of Health officials have since been sent to contain the situation in the province.
“When we have such situation, we open centres and instruct the provincial health offices or immediate interventions including treatment. So from the time, cholera broke out our staff have always been there to contain the situation,” he said.
Mulenga said there are a total of 191 cholera patients and that most of them have been discharged while nine have died.
