MMD president Dr Nevers Mumba has said the PF is merely politicking for threatening to de-register the former ruling party.
Reacting to government threats to de-register MMD if it fails to resolve its internal leadership issues, Dr Mumba said he had resigned from the Reform Party and lodged in the documents with the Registrar of Societies.
He said since the Reformed Party was dissolved, it ceased to be operational and he does not understand how his opponents can claim that he is a president of a non-existent political party.
Dr Mumba said he later applied to join the MMD and that he was admitted as a member until he was even co-opted in the National Executive Committee (NEC).
“You see my focus now is to establish the MMD and move forward as we prepare for 2016 elections. Those claiming that I am a leader of a non-existent party are merely trying to derail our mission and its mere politics,” he said.
Home affairs minister Edgar Lungu said on Saturday that he has the power to invoke powers entrusted with him in the Registrar of Societies Act to de-register the MMD if they fail to resolve their internal problems.
He the failure to resolve internal wrangle will amount to breach of public peace.
