Apathy Towards Coins Worry Boz Chief

BoZ GondweBank of Zambia Governor Dr Michael Gondwe is worried that some Zambians are refusing to use the coins as a mode of transaction.

Dr Gondwe has since urged commercial banks and other financial institutions to participate in the circulation of coins and encourage people to use them.

He said he was concerned that some Zambians were frowning at the use of coins and that the situation is not good.

Dr Gondwe said people should appreciate the use of coins which have longer life span and that they should be used for daily transactions.

Zambia has introduced the coins that were phased out over 20 years ago but people have been reluctant to use them in preference to paper money.
