Former President Rupiah Banda Sues for Defamation

The Former President of Zambia Rupiah Banda has sued Chief Chisunka of the Ushi people for defamation of character through articles published in The Post newspaper and is demanding damages.

According to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court Mr Banda has sued Chief Chisunka, whose real names are Justine Haakamwaya, for defamation in relation to articles published in The Post Newspapers edition dated November 10, 2011. The former head of State is also seeking an injunction to restrain Chief Chisunka, his agents or servants from further publishing or causing to be published similar libel against him. He is further demanding exemplary and punitive damages.
