Let Westerners Vote over Cessation – Lawyer

The Government of Zambia should conduct a referendum for the people of Western Province to decide whether they want to secede from the rest of the country or not, constitutional lawyer John Sangwa has said.

He says the referendum would permanently resolve the Barotseland issue. Mr Sangwa says violence will not solve the Barotseland question but that Government and the Barotse National Council (BNC) should dialogue on the matter to come up with an amicable solution.

He said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the referendum should be confined to Western Province to allow locals to resolve the problem.
