MMD sets May 25 for intra-party elections

The Movement for Multiparty Democracy has finally announced that the provincial conventions to elect the party’s new leader will commence on Friday May 25th,2012.

The convention will see the election of a new party president to replace former president Rupiah Banda who relinquished the position last month.

MMD National Secretary Richard Kachingwe announced at a briefing yesterday that the conventions will also see the amendment of the MMD constitution leading to the introduction of two positions of party vice president, one in charge of political affairs with the other one in charge of administration.

Major Kachingwe said this is in compliance with the provisions of Article 15 of the MMD Constitution.
