Mr. Kunda had been admitted on 27 March 2012 to the University Teaching Hospital. The exact cause of his death and the ailment he was suffering has not yet been disclosed publicly.
Just a few weeks ago, the Lusaka High Court ruled to uphold Mr. Kunda’s election as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Muchinga Constituency. Mr. Kunda has been under significant pressure from the ruling Patriotic Front party, including a police raid of his home village, resulting in the seizure of bicycles, bags of maize meal, and election campaign related materials.
Mr. Kunda had a distinguished career as one of Zambia’s finest jurists, serving as the head of Legal Affairs for the MMD Party, Head of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), Attorney General, and a long list of portfolios in public service.
As more details become available, Zambia Reports will update this article.
Update: As noted on the Zambian Watchdog website, “Unlike most politicians both in government and a few select in opposition, Kunda was not evacuated to better medical services outside the country.“
