United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has demanded the reinstatement of the 6 young journalists at the Times of Zambia who were forcefully retired by government “in national interest”.
Hichilema said the retirement of journalists is an affront on media freedom and democracy in the country.
He accused the Patriotic Front government of engineering the early retirement of the journalists because it does not respect media freedom.
On Friday, Times of Zambia retired Abel Mboozi, Bob Sianjalike, Obet Simwanza, Patson Phiri, Richard Mulonga and Whitney Mulobela for unknown reasons.
The journalists received the letters of retirement despite not having attained the retirement age.
