Government says it will be meeting mining firms and their respective trade unions to work out a way of expediting negotiations for improved salaries and conditions of service in the mining sector.
There have been work stoppages and delayed conclusion of the negotiations in the mining industry, which is the critical sector of Zambia’s economy.
Information, Broadcasting and Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda said in Ndola yesterday that there was need for industrial harmony particularly in the mining sectors because it was a critical component of the economy.
Mr Shamenda noted that the Government and public service workers’ representatives concluded negotiation in record time, despite having 60 union representatives during the talks.
He said the spirit exhibited in the public sector could be replicated in the mining sector which experienced strikes as a result of failed negotiations.
