Tourism Sector Worried by Livingstone Violence

The Zambia Tourism Board says urgent security measures need to be put in place for Livingstone to maintain its status as one of the most peaceful tourist destinations in the world.

Commenting on the shooting of a Spanish pilot, a guard and the theft of money at a bureau in Livingstone early this week, ZTB managing director Felix Chaila described the two incidents as unfortunate for the tourism industry.

He said urgent measures and a quick response must be taken to ensure similar occurrences do not happen again.

“It is a very unfortunate and unprecedented situation. Urgent measures and response must be taken to ensure that we instil confidence in the tourists and make sure that the name we have of Zambia being one of the safest destinations is not dented,” Chaila said.
