The upcoming state funeral to be held for the late Malawian President Bingu Wa Mutharika is expected to draw a large audience of regional heads of state, however Zambian President Michael Sata will not be among the mourners. In his place, Vice President Guy Scott departed on Sunday leaving for Blantyre, Malawi to attend the events.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi Billy Munyumbwe says Dr Scott was among other African leaders who attended the burial ceremony of the late Malawi leader. He said Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba, Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Given Lubinda, Minister of Gender and Child Development Inonge Wina and Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Emeren Kabashi were part of the Zambia delegation.
Mr Munyumbwe says Vice-President will later in the evening have a discussion with Malawian President Joyce Banda. Mutharika was buried at the Mausoleum that was built by himself and where his first wife Ethel is also buried.
Professor Mutharika died on 5th April after a heart attack.
