Zambia Looks to Increase Safety Regulations in Mining Sector

Mines, Energy and Water Development Minister Christopher says government is concerned over matters of health and safety in all Zambian industries and the mines in particular.

Yaluma said employees and employers should seriously take into account issues of safety and health in work environments.

The minister was speaking when he officiated at the Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) World Day of Safety and Health programme held at the Cricket Club in Kitwe at the weekend.

He said in a speech read for him by his deputy Isaac Banda that the Government would ensure that all mine companies and employees take issues of safety at work places seriously to avoid loss of life that goes with mine accidents.
