Former President Rupiah Banda’s son Andrew today presented himself to police investigators for questioning, only a few days following his detention at the Kenneth Kaunda airport. Police allege they are investigating a possible bribe solicited from an Italian construction company, Fratelli Locci.
Police also questioned him over his involvement with some money suspected to be proceeds of crime. Mr. Banda, who serves as Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to India, arrived at the Task Force on Corruption offices around 09:30 with his lawyer Sakwiba Sikota.
Investigative wings spokesperson Charity Chanda said Andrew was being interviewed regarding the allegation of soliciting money from the Italian company.
“It is to do with an allegation of him having solicited for two percent from an Italian construction company, Fratelli Locci. The agreement was that any present or future contracts that they would get they give him a two per cent,” Chanda said.
