Chinese Contractor Murdered in Zambia

On Monday a Chinese contractor was killed in a gruesome murder at his home in Lusaka.  The unknown assailants, who attacked the victim with an axe, were believed to have been thieves caught in the act of a home robbery.

Confirming the incident in an interview, Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela said Zhang Chao of unknown age was murdered on Monday night in his Apartment in Kabulonga.

“The Deceased, Mr. Zhang Chao a Chinese national, was found dead this morning (yesterday) at plot number 10 Green Lane Road, Kabulonga. He was working for Hong Chen as a constructor building a Catholic Studio,” she said.

Kanjela said the robbers also stole a black suitcase, two grinders, a DvD player, an Electric Saw and a Nokia Cell Phone.

A police source investigating the matter said Chao was killed by blows of an axe delivered to his head and shoulders.

“It’s is difficult to tell why they murdered him in this brutal way, but we suspect it could be people who knew him well,” said the source.
