Germany Lends Zambia K550 Billion

Zambia and Germany have signed a K550 billion finance and technical cooperation agreement.

Of the k550 billion, k221 billion will go towards poverty reduction budget support with particular emphasis on water and sanitation.

German Ambassador to Zambia Frank Meyke says that K216 billion will go towards integration of climate change programs while K113 billion will be dedicated toward “good governance, decentralization and the fight against corruption and HIV/AIDS.”

Mr Meyke disclosed this during a signing ceremony with Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda, calling upon the government and the opposition to work together for the good of the Zambian people and to strengthen democracy.

In recent weeks the Patriotic Front government has been pressing donors following an urgent appeal sent to donors by the opposition warning of numerous cases of government corruption and nepotism.
