Sprinter Gerald Phiri Storms Olympic Semis

United States-based Zambian sprinter Gerald Phiri finished in strong third position of the 100 metres heat one race to qualify to the semi-finals at the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

Phiri finished with 10:16 seconds while heat one winner and training mate Tyson Gay won the pool after timing 10:09 with Richard Thompson in heat one’s second place at 10:14.

The 23-year-old Zambian runner has the potential to qualify to the final if he maintains his pace or makes slight improvement to become the country most credible hope for medals at the competition in recent times.

Phiri has a challenging field which includes Yohan Blake, Justin Gatlin, Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt to come close to the prize medals at the competition.
