Mali Eliminates Zambia from Under-20 African Contest

Zambia’s Under-20 have lost 3-0 to Mali in the second leg of the Algeria 2013 African Youth Championship bowing out 5-2 aggregate in Bamako.

The Malian cleverly picked a 2-2 draw at Arthur Davies Stadium two weeks ago and completed their assignment in great fashion.

The Malians struck in the 43rd minute to take 1-0 lead into the break and further exposed the Junior Chipolopolo in the second half as the team chased for an equaliser.

With Herve Renard taking charge, a better result was expected after the Keagan Mumba was blamed for the lacklustre performance in the first leg which saw the Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba captained side threw away two goals to give Mali an advantage which they built on tonight.

Attention will now shift to next weekend when Zambia face Uganda in an African Cup of Nations qualifier and Oswald Mutapa Jr’s under-17′s clash with South Africa.

Zambia last qualified to a continental championship under George Lwandamina in 2007 while again under Herve Renard in 2008, Zambia faltered at Nchanga Stadium when an injury time goal by Egypt dumped out a star studded side.
