Victorious African Champions Return After Beating Uganda to Qualify to 2013

African champions, Zambia, arrived in Lusaka early on Sunday after beating Uganda 9-8 on penalties to qualify to the next edition in South Africa where they will now defend their status.

The Zambians survived a brutal scare after conceding in the first half through Uganda’s Geoffrey Massa at a packed Namboole Stadium in Kampala.

Zambia was going into the game with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Ndola but the Uganda goal levelled the aggregate scoreline forcing the match to be decided on penalties.

Captain Christopher Katongo missed the first penalty but goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene saved twice with Stophilla Sunzu scoring the deciding penalty.

That was still enough to secure the champions a place at the next games to be held in South Africa.

The team was on a charter and return home to be greeted by a thunderous crowd that braved the night to wait for their heroes.
