Burial Site Crisis Hits Lusaka

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has started burying people on top of each other at Chunga Cemetery.

The grave diggers revealed the practice yesterday after emphasing with families of dead relatives that were being buried at the cemetery.

The grave diggers expressed sadness at what they were doing and urged the council to find an alternative burial site if the cemetery is full or a better way of burying people.

“They even tell us that just dig four feet down. But sometimes, we fine body parts and bones as we are digging on another old grave. It is terrible,” one grave digger lamented.

But Council deputy public relations officer Mulunda Habeenzu said the council was trying to find a solution to Chunga cemetery which has now become full.
