Cop Arrested for Defiling School in Chinsali

Police in Chinsali have arrested an Officer-in–Charge of Muchinga Province for allegedly defiling a minor.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Remmy Kajoba confirmed the arrest of Stephen Mwenge.

He said Mwenge 35, of house number 1 Nakatindi Street in Mayandi township was arrested on Friday last week for allegedly defiling a 14–year-old school girl.

Kajoba said that Mwenge, who has since been charged with one count of defilement contrary to the laws of Zambia, has been released on police bond and is expected to appear in court today.

The Police Commissioner warned that the Police Service will not protect any officer that will be found on the wrong side of the law.

He said law enforcers should strive to follow the law to the latter and ensure that any person regardless of his or her status in society, breaking the laws of the land, is dealt with accordingly.

Meanwhile, Kajoba said Police in Isoka district in Muchinga Province have intercepted about 51 Congolese nationals at Chitipa border between Zambia and Malawi.

He said that initial investigations had indicated that the Congolese nationals, who are running away from the civil war in that country, entered Zambia through Mpulungu border.

Kajoba said that law enforcement agencies are currently screening them and realized that among them were women and children.
