Danish Tourist Dies in Serenje

An 18-year-old Danish tourist has died after she slipped and fell into Kundalila Falls in Serenje district.

Serenje district police commanding officer Daniel Museteka has confirmed the death of Ann Nelson and that the body is awaiting postmortem in the district hospital’s mortuary before flying it back to Denmark.

The accident happened as Nelson was trying to take the picture of the falls and slipped on a rock then fell off 67 metres deep.

In an attempt to save her life, the community managed to retrieve the body and rushed her to the district hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Nelson was in the company of 15 other tourists led by Mott Green, the leader of the adventure.

Sad, indeed. I live in Denmark and I was deeply devastated by the news which I heard on local radio this morning. Unlike other African countries, Zambia never makes headlines here since we are generally a peaceful country. And when the headlines come, it is in form of such a tragedy. My sincere condolences to her family and friends…
