Sata for 50+1 in New Constitution, says Silungwe

Constitution Technical Committee chairperson Anel Silungwe says President Sata has promised not to doctors contents of the new constitution including contentious 50+1 and presidential running mate clauses.

Chairperson Silungwe said President Sata has assured him he will not to interfere with the process in order to accommodate the wishes of people.

Justice Silungwe said President Sata has made a commitment not doctor the submissions of the provisions that Zambians want to be included in the new constitution.

Meanwhile, Chieftainess Nkomeshya has said people have made submissions of what they want the new constitution to contain.

At the same meeting, Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) executive director Father Leonard Chiti has been elected as chairperson of the Lusaka province constitution conference to be deputized by Women for Change executive director Emily Sikazwe who will be coordinating deliberations before closing on Saturday.

The technical committee reviewing the constitution is currently hosting the last provincial conferences in Lusaka, Eastern and Southern Provinces.
