Lusaka Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe has criticized the city council for the failure to provide effective service delivery to the residents.
Sikazwe has said the council has contracted various companies that are supposed to be providing services like collection of garbage and maintaining sanitation but that they do not perform their contractual obligation.
“What I am basically saying is that I want the council to take responsibility. What I am asking is for them to be responsible. They have contracted companies to clean the city but they do not do so,” he said.
But council assistant public relations manager Muyunda Habeenzu said the problems in Lusaka were too huge for the capacity of equipment that the council possesses.
Habeenzu said there is need for the central government to assist the council in providing effective services to the community.
