Grade 12 Pass Rate Disappoints Teachers

The teachers unions are not happy with a drop in the passing rate of Grade 12 pupils.

Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) national secretary Newman Bubala said there is need for serious measures that need to be taken in order to address the situation.

Bubala said it is sad that there is a huge drop in the number of pupils that passed Grade 12 examinations this year as compared to 2011 results.

He said there is need to analyze the problems in the education sector and rectify the problems.

Bubala said often times; they have highlighted to government some issues affecting the quality of education in Zambia but that they do not get any support.

He said one of the problem is the over enrollment which affect the pupil teacher ration but that government has been giving them a deaf ear.

The latest Grade 12 results have shown a 1.2 drop compared to the examination results of 2011.
