Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema says the failed defamation of President Michael Sata case vindicates him branding the prosecution team led by Director of Public Prosecutions Incompetent.
Hichilema was dramatically cited for defamation after he criticized President Michael Sata’s statement that the Anti Corruption Commission had to seek clearance from him before
prosecuting cabinet ministers.
The state this morning entered a nolle prosequi after initially forcefully pursuing the case.
“This is a clear case of incompetence on the part of the prosecutors,” said Hichilema.
He said he would not claim damages to avoid burdening the Zambian taxpayers.
Hichilema had said President Sata was interfering in the investigation of of Justice minister Wynter Kabimba who alleged received kick-backs from oil company Trafigura to win a tender for the supply of oil.
Magistrate Boniface Mwiinga discharged Hichilema who with his MMD counterpart Nevers Mumba
have been targets of politically motivated arrests.
