The Zambian-US governments PPP which will run for period of five years is valued at an estimated amount of ten million United States dollars with the Zambian government contributing two million dollars in the first year of the PPP.
Speaking during the inauguration of the PPP, Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu said the creation of a Police Forensic Laboratory which will be based at the University Teaching Hospital will help the Zambian government save revenue that is usually spent on DNA tests conducted outside the country.
Lungu also notes that the creation of the Police Forensic Laboratory has come at a right time when Zambia is recording cases of murder which are usually dismissed in the courts of law due to lack of technology for DNA analysis.
US Ambassador to Zambia Mark Storella said the inaugurated PPP represent a true honors-hip of the Zambian government’s commitment to combating gender based violence and upholding the rights of women and Children.
Ambassador Storella also commended the Zambian government for its commitment to addressing the vice of gender based violence in the country.
