Executive director Chilufya Tayali says Chikopa had said in Zambia for almost one year on the account of the Zambian tax payer and had accrued hefty allowances for doing nothing.
Republican president Michael Sata appointed a tribunal to investigate the conduct of Supreme Court Judge Phillip Musonda and High Court Judges Nigel Mutuna and Charles Kajimanga.
The trio had challenged the appointment of the tribunal saying there were other avenues to address the matter and High Court judge Fulgence Chisanga had granted them leave to seek judicial review but the decision was controversially overturned by the Supreme Court paving way for the tribunal.
“No one really expects Malawian judge Chikopa to pass a fair judgment on the three judges firstly Chikopa has been on a one year holiday at the Zambian tax payers’ expense and owes all this to his friends who appointed him,” he said.
“He is a hired gun only coming to cement the wishes of his masters. The whole tribunal is a sham.”
The Chikopa tribunal is seen as part of a scheme of to rid the judiciary of judges not in good standing with the ruling party and its allies.
