MMD Accuse PF of Ploy to Disrupt Kafulafuta By-Election

MMDOpposition Movement for Multi-Party Democracy says the reported withdrawal of its Kafulafuta parliamentary candidate Evelyn Mwanawasa was a Patriotic Front ploy to disrupt their campaign.

Party deputy secretary general Chembe Nyangu said Mwanawasa had not withdrawn her candidature as reported by Gladys Lundwe.

Nyangu said it was strange that Lundwe had found it fit to be the bearer of such a measure and hurriedly deliver it to the press.

“Evelyn Mwanawasa has not withdrawn her candidature. That is just a PF strategy to disrupt our campaign. Why has that message been transmitted to the media when we the MMD are not aware of it? Why Gladys Lundwe? So we have not heard anything of a resignation,” Nyangu said.

“Lundwe is working with the PF to discredit our campaign.”

Evelyn, who is a sister to former Republican President Levy Mwanawasa, has been hospitalized at Ndola Central Hospital after her blood pressure shot up.

She is seen as a strong contender for the Kafulafuta seat that fell vacant after incumbent James Chishiba defected to the ruling Patriotic Front.
