Football Association of Zambia vice president Boniface Mwamelo has entangled himself in fraud allegations with his employers MTN suspending him to pave way for investigations, according to bolazambia.com.
Mwamelo, who served as FAZ treasurer in Kalusha Bwalya’s first term of office, was sent packing on Friday August, 9th for alleged financial impropriety at the giant telecommunication company that also sponsors the FAZ league.
The free spending FAZ leader was spotted in Harare on both occasions the Chipolopolo were away but it is not clear whether he was on duty or on a private excursion as he never showed up at the pitch.
MTN public relations officer Eugene Phiri said on Thursday that he was unaware about the matter but would consult top management before issuing a statement.
“I am unaware but let me check with senior management and I will get back to you,” he said.
Bolazambia contacted Mwamelo by telephone on four different occasions but those attempts were unsuccessful as both his phones were first off and when he answered on the second attempt, he sounded having difficulties with the network although he repeatedly said, “hello, hello, hello” after salutations.
On third and fourth attempts, Mwamelo’s line went unanswered. An electronic mail (email) press query sent to Mwamelo over 24 hours ago has not been immediately attended to.
