Chipolopolo Finally Arrive in Kumasi

Zambia in KumasiZambia’s Chipolopolo put behind the logistical nightmare and rolled into Kumasi ahead of tomorrow’s Brazil, 2014 Group D final qualifier.

Herve Renard’s bullets whose flight was delayed by almost 24 hours jetted down in Accra at 13:10 local time and took a 40 minute connecting flight to Kumasi where the highly anticipated showdown has been set.

They was later in the evening scheduled to have a feel of the Baba Yara Stadium, the venue for the highly clash.

Ghana leads Group D on 12 points, one better than second placed Zambia.

And according to bolazambia.com, sports minister Chishimba Kambwili says the logistical nightmare the team endured prior to their departure to Ghana for Friday’s Brazil 2014 Group D final qualifier should not be used as an excuse if the team does not perform according to expectations.

Kambwili admitted during a media briefing that there were logistical lapses as the team prepared to leave for Kumasi on Wednesday a trip that was subsequently postponed to the following day sparking accusations and counter accusations of mind games on both sides.

“I can say that we had logistical problems that have since been sorted out,” Kambwili said.

“Let me also state that the High Commissioner (for Ghana) here in Zambia called me this morning and apologized for all the short comings she was also claimed that they were informed at short notice to make the clearance of the Zambia national team that has been given for both Kinshasa and Accra.”

The minister defended the decision to have the team travel from South Africa for a prayer meeting that cost them more than two training sessions as they were stuck Oliver Tambo Airport for seven hours before finally flying to Lusaka with the prayers already wound up.

“I don’t think coming to Zambia might affect their performance for losing two days of training,” he said.

“The coming of the players from South Africa to Zambia was a planned thing so the coach should have taken into account in his training schedule because the players were suppose to come here for a prayer session.”

He said, “So this programme was made with the consultation of FAZ and the technical team I don’t think there should be any excuse that the players lost two days of training, they have training when they arrive this afternoon and will be accorded an opportunity to train on the pitch where they will play tomorrow.”

The team arrived around 15:00 hours after connecting from Accra, Ghana where the chartered flight landed.
