A delegation visiting Zambia from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is investigating the current environment for human rights under the Presidency of Michael Sata and the Patriotic Front.

The delegation, that comprised Mr Juan Pablo Letelier, the president of the Human Rights Committee of the IPU and secretary Mr Rogier Huizenga, held a closed-door meeting that lasted about 30 minutes and was also attended by President Banda’s lawyer Sakwiba Sikota.

And briefing journalists after the meeting, Mr Letelier said he was happy that the Zambian government had allowed his delegation to visit Zambia and meeting several stakeholders to assess the country’s human rights performance.
