PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Bangweulu member of Parliament (MP) Chifita Matafwali is dead. He was 55.
Matafwali’s wife, Annie, confirmed the death of her husband in a telephone interview from India yesterday.
Matafwali died in India where he had gone for a kidney transplant.
He is survived by a wife, four children and one grandchild.
The house of mourning is Matafwali’s elder sister’s house, Elizabeth Matafwali, in Lusaka’s Chalala.
And PF secretary-general Davis Chama expressed sadness at the death of Mr Matafwali, whom he described as a colleague.
“He was one of us, we will miss him and we will mourn him as a party because we are one family,’’ he said.
Chama wished the family God’s strength during the period of mourning.
He said that it is not easy to lose a father, breadwinner and husband.
Matafwali was elected Bangweulu MP in the 2011 tripartite elections in which the PF emerged victorious, ending the MMD’s 20-year rule.
