MMD East Lawmaker Backs Alliance With PF

mmdzambia.orgInfluential Movement for Multi Party Democracy Kasenengwa lawmaker Victoria Kalima Phiri has backed calls for an alliance with the ruling Patriotic Front.

Phiri who enjoys commanding support in her constituency having overwhelmingly beaten the ruling party whilst she stood on an opposition ticket after her seat was nullified in 2014 said the former ruling party was already working with the ruling party.

She said that there was no harm with the MMD joining forces with the PF to marshal the requisite 50% plus one vote in the August 11 election.

Phiri said the MMD could not go it alone in the next elections and hope to marshal the 50% plus one vote.

“I think it is a good idea that we should consider an alliance after all this is not going to be the first time we will be working together,” she said.

“If you have seen a good thing, why not go for it?” she said.

President Edgar Lungu has announced that he has formally written to MMD president Nevers Mumba over the possibility of opening an alliance ahead of the August 11 elections.
