Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has assured the nation that enough security measures have been put in place to make sure that campaigns are conducted in a free, fair and conducive environment.
Kanganja has also urged political leaders and stakeholders to restrain their cadres from being involved in acts of violence.
He says police officers will be on high alert to arrest and take to court all those who will be involved in any form of violence before, during and after the elections.
He adds that the service will be on high alert to make sure that no cadres are transported on top of buses or any other unauthorized means of transporting passengers.
The police IG says both uniformed and plain clothed police officers will be deployed for the sole purpose of maintaining law and order throughout the republic.
He has emphasized that members of the public should not feel intimidated by the presence of the police officers as they will be there to protect them.
