Military ‘Take Over’ Zimbabwe; Mugabe’s End Prescribed

MILITARY ‘TAKE OVER’ ZIMBABWE; DENY IT’S A COUP BUT PROCESS TO PACIFY INSTABILITY

… Army Mouthpiece Says State Capture By Criminal Elements Will Not Be Tolerated.

Zimbabwe’s army has announced a military take over potentially bringing Robert Mugabe’s 37 year rule to an end.

Army General, through a spokesperson, announced on national television and radio around 3:51 AM Wednesday that the military was only targeting criminals around President Mugabe.

The army representative said the military take over was not a coup, but a process to pacify a situation that was degenerating into chaos.

The officer said the president and his family were safe.

Earlier in the night, the AFP News agency twitted exchange of gunfire near President Mugabe’s private residence.

The US Embassy issued a statement urging its citizens in Zimbabwe to shelter owing to a fluid situation obtaining in the southern African nation.

Moments later, the UK took similar precaution advising citizens to take measures and not fall into harm’s way in view of increased military activity.

The day was marred with uncertainty following Zimbabwe Army Commander General Constantine Chiwenga’s threat on Monday that the military would take over if the situation in the governing ZANU-PF spiraled out of control.

President Mugabe fired his deputy Emerson Mnangagwa a few weeks ago paving way for his wife to succeed the 93-year-old leader.

ZANU-PF members have objected to plans by First Lady Grace Mugabe to succeed the aging leader.

Zimbabweans will wake up to a different reality this morning. The country is due to hold elections in March 2018.

    Too good to be true.

Too little too late! It will take Zimbabwe 37 years just to get back to the SAME PLACE they were at Independence.

They should have done this LONG TIME AGO when Grace Mugabes stealing made the Zimbabwe worthless!

  2. Jose

Congrats zimbabwen army. zambian army their cowards, all what they know it jst to praise changwa & drinking ginger.

    • Zambia is Mature

Zimbabwe is our young brother. Zambia is too grown up at 53 to tolerate such nonsense. This should have occurred in Zambia when there was state capture under Mwanawasa. Fred Mwembe would have been hung by the balls.

My friend, if you don’t know anything about what is going on in Zimbabwe, you better shut up. Once Mr EDGER LUNGU has come across with such nonsense idea of yours,l don’t think he will remain toothless over your stupid comments. So, you better shut up. You can’t compare the Zambian gorvmt to Zimbabwe gorvmt.

    Wonderful

  4. Dominion

@Jose, you are a great disappointment to this nation. The fact that someone has failed to win elections should not be the reason soldiers should take over Zambia. Zambia is one of the examples of democracy in Africa. Since independence three different political parties have rules this nation. Just work hard in elections and also in life. Theres no country without problems. Even in USA and UK they have problems thats why ruling parties change their also. Theres no justification whatsoever for military takeover in Zambia. Read the constitution of Zambia properly. And very important check also what constitutes a full presidential term so that you don’t say the courts are compromised. Courts are there to uphold what is written in the constitution regardless of how someone feels about it. Is that clear Jose?

    • nineo

baDominion, the not certain which constitution you are referring to but the Zambian one refers to being sworn in twice and not what constitutes a full term! Anyways I trust the Zambian PF is learning a lesson or two from their PF colleagues in Zim on the implications of wanting to hold on to power at all costs??

Arm can’t overthrow Zambian government just because pipo will never vote HH. he will never rule us we don’t like him yes

    • MUBITA

JOSE you are right. Zambia army are cowards. Even the Zimbabwean Army has been dormant and stupid for a long time allowing Mugabe to do bad things against his own peoplease. Even Zuma as CHAIR of SADC should remove his rinkled face from Zimbabwe issue. SADC has not been helpful especially to Opposition in the region.

Military take overs do not work any more in Africa.
It is not for this generation, look at bukinafaso , what happened Senogo gave in no support from any nation.
SADC will not allow anything like that zimbabwe Will be isolated which is worse than the current scenario.
Just go back to the constitution and elect leaders.
Are you not surprised how these people still love Mugabe.

  7. nshilimubemba

Awakening too late, the beautiful industrialised Zimbabwe is all ruins,an economy that was 10 times better than Zambia’s economy. However, better late than never. Purge all that have been Mugabe’s allies and bring in new leaders that can resuscitate the country’s economy. Majority of street vendors especially in Lusaka are Zimbabweans and they sleep at intercity bus terminus. Do not relent, push until you liberate your citizenry.

Nothing on earth can stand forever! No kingdom or leadership Will stand forever, only God and his word. There’s time for everything,my brothers and sisters in Zambabwe please remain calm! God is in control!.

  40. Billy

They is always an end to everything and when that time comes just let go peacefully. What as happened to the Zimbabwean leader let be an example to every African leader. May God bless Zambia always!!

  41. PureBreed

This is a lesson for all African leaders that want to cling to power at all costs. Mugabe was democratically defeated by Morgan Tschangarai but refused to concede defeat and manipulated the electoral process until he was declared winner. He set aside the rule of law and the whole army was on his side and defended him. Today the same army which defended him has put him under house arrest! Oh what a Web we often weave for ourselves! How many African presidents are not doing the same? They manipulate courts, electoral systems, law enforcement agencies and everything in their way until they get what they want. But what is happening to comrade Mugabe shows that your own systems can turn against you. There is a God in Heaven who looks into affairs of feeble men on earth. Time for reckoning has come for Mugabe. It’s just a question of time the world will know what he really did when he was in power. Just watch the space and advise someone.

  45. Pfank

No Zambian should comment on this. Suffice to say, if its Gods wish let Democratic changes come into play. Let Zimbabwe learn from us who hire and fire using the ballot box. Let the three arms of government come into play. Not force. This is hazardous to Zambian economy as we don’t want refugees any more. Let the Army in Zimbabwe reflect on this. Otherwise let us pray for peace to return in Zimbabwe.

    • kufahakurambwe

“Let Zimbabwe learn from us” !! You must certainly be out of your freaking mind! What’s there to learn? You, Zambians are a litter of cowardly drunks know nothing bovine natured waste of time. You actually lack relevance in the southern region. Shameful.

Let us pray for WISDOM among the leaders in SADC Region. Indeed Mugabe was a freedom fight, but he is now 93 years old and compounded by his failing health. The SADC leaders can apply fine art of diplomacy by proposing the following:
    (1) Persuade Mugabe to amicably step down from politics and allow young blood to lead ZANU-PF and restructure Zimbabwe’s economy. It is good for his health and welfare of all Zimbabweans.
    (2) SADC leaders must plead with the Military leadership to take care of Mugabe by building a retirement house to write his memoirs during his last days of life.
These proposals will augur well for all the peoples of Zimbabwe and the SADC region.
