Mushimba said that the inaugural Zambia airways flight will be launched as planned on 24th October, 2018 despite delays to finalize agreements by all stakeholders involved.
Providing an update on how far the process has gone Engineer Mushimba, said that the shareholder agreement was submitted to the Industrial Development Corporation for further consultation before committing to the deal with Ethiopia Airways.
He said the shareholder agreement was submitted to the industrial development corporation to study the document which was supposed to be finalized in May but the process spilled over to June, 2018.
Ethiopian Airlines agreed in January to take a 45 percent stake in the new Zambia Airways with the government of Zambia holding 55 percent shareholding.
“The Industrial Development Corporation-IDC-is supposed to sign on behalf of the government, the IDC requested that they wanted to own the document, after which the IDC Board approved the shareholder agreement but with comments and those comments needed to be addressed,” he said.
“All the other agreements that were supposed to be signed be negotiated and signed, including leasing of planes agreement, maintenance, and technical support agreements, all these agreements, that is why the process has taken longer” but we are committed to the 24th October inaugural flight for Zambia Airways,” he said.
