President Edgar Lungu took advantage of his campaigns in Eastern Province to preach against political violence ahead of the July 26 round of local government polls.
Addressing a rally at Kasenengwa Primary School on Friday afternoon, President Lungu said he was disappointed with the violence which was recorded in Lusangazi District and wondered what the people were fighting for.
“I know the Ngonis are known for their nature, they are warriors, but you are very peaceful. Continue being peaceful, don’t be like Nsengas in Lusangazi who are fighting, I had a rally there and have told them that I am embarrassed because I have heard that you are fighting, what are you fighting for?” he said.
“Lungu will remain in Lusaka and will be peaceful, HH will be in Lusaka peaceful, Chishimba Kambwili will be in Lusaka peaceful, why should we kill ourselves here?” he asked.
President Lungu made the proclamation of the July 26 national holiday at this public rally.
He urged the people to vote for PF Kasenengwa candidate Saul Zulu.
President Lungu also took time to address matters relating to the e-voucher and other agricultural related matters.
President Lungu started his campaign trail of Eastern Province on Friday with a rally in Lusangazi, Kasenengwa with more meetings lineup up in Chasefu and Lumezi on Saturday before concluding with Chipangali on Sunday.
Eastern Province PF chairperson Andrew Lubusha informed the head of state that the people of Kasenengwa would vote for a PF candidate as a way of thanking him for giving the area a district status.
