The hard working mayor of Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe has been elected Vice President of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa Southern Region.
The 33 year old who is also Zambia’s Local Government Association President, has been elected at the ongoing Regional Congress of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa Southern Region in Windhoek Namibia.
“I have today been elected the Vice President (Southern Region) of the United Cities of Local Government in Africa (UCLGA) at the ongoing assembly in Windhoek, Namibia. Consequently, Zambia has secured a slot on the Pan African Council on local government,” Kang’ombe said.
Local Government Association of Zambia Information Officer Mpatanji Namumba said Kang’ombe who is Kitwe District Patriotic Front Chirperson will also be on the Pan African Council on local government at continental level.
The youthful political leader will have his first assignment at the 8th edition of the Africities Summit in Marakech Morrocco from 20th to 24th November 2018.
Meanwhile, Zambia has also been elected to sit on the Network of African Women local elected officials’ continental body for women in local government.
