Maids to Get K993.60 as Minimum Wage

Zambia’s minimum wage has been revised for various categories of workers.

Labour and Social Security Minister Joyce Simukoko said at a media briefing in Lusaka that there was wide stakeholder consultations through the tripartite consultative meeting held on 18th May, 2018.

Simukoko says the revision implies that wages for various categories have been revised upwards with domestic workers’ wages increased from K522.4 to K993.60 with transport allowance inclusive.

Shop workers’ revised minimum wage is pegged at K1, 698/60 with transport, lunch and housing allowances inclusive and that the wages will increase according to the grades of employees while the minimum wage of the highest grade in this category will be getting K3, 558.9.

Zambia Reports, what kind of reporting is this? We have read about this development.Domestic workers, Shop workers, General workers and Security guards have been categorized in this news following SI 69, 70 and 71. This news is loud and clear if you can read it through Opera News. Why is it that you Zambia Reports want to keep the people in the dark? If i read this article of yours, i cannot see the category of security guards and general workers? Edit your news before publishing it!!!!!

Comment:All companies should follow the laws of zambia. All domestic workers should be paid according. No one should refuse to increase this minimum wage.It is not good to start following each another.Report anyone who will refuse to increase your minimum wage to your nearest labour office.

In theory, it works. On practice, what the boss has will determine what a worker gets. E.g, in Vubwi , a volunteer trained (diploma holder) teacher gets K250 per month. It’s not called a salary. We call it a token of appreciation in older not to embarrass them in public. They accept. That’s what a community can afford.

Security officers will dearly appreciate the government if this truly comes to pass.k3,000 will help these people a lot, coz the usual salary they get is not even enough for monthly food. They have children’s who go to school just like everyone else,..and this will definitely give boost to the lives and PF will surely take there deserving credit over there good work…

this is not a long term solution because the laws of demand and supply will simply come into play and we will soon see an increase in all basic commodities. the beneficiaries will be supermarkets such as shoprite. the best solution is to reduce unemployment and increase in exports of processed goods. this is like taking a pain killer when you have a wound.

They are not being specific.. There are two types of maids; a commuter and a living in maid, the latter should get more than a commuter..maybe now with the increment, napsa contributions will be considered among domestic workers..
