Vice president Mtolo Phiri has announced that the former ruling party will launch the national card renewal exercise at Chipata’s Mpezeni Park square on Saturday September 29, 2018.
Phiri made the announcement at a press briefing held at his Pine View Guest House on Tuesday.
“The main focus for this press briefing is the card renewal programme that the MMD has decided to embark on and that this national card renewal programme should start from here in the Eastern Province. We are proud as MMD here in Eastern Province, so we want to inform people in this province vas well as nation at large,” Phiri said.
He said the card renewal which will be characterized by various traditional dances will be graced by party leader Felix Mutati.
Phiri said renowned and able leaders who have led this country would attend the exercise.
He said the party had extended invitation to a number of people while others have been given an open invitation.
“The card renewal exercise is open to everyone from districts who is a member of the party, a friend of the party and loves the party. People from other provinces are free to come because this is the mother of all launches. We would like to thank the national executive committee for giving us this blessing which they have given us that we can do the national launch from here,” Phiri said.
In responding to questions, Phiri said the MMD was an independent political party whose structures were intact.
He also condemned tribal politics saying they were a recipe for problems in the country.
Phiri also clarified that his party was not participating in by-election because it wants to concentrate on party mobilization.
