Mansa Prison Escapees Re-Arrested

Police in Mansa District have arrested three suspects, who escaped from lawful custody on Saturday, 15th September, 2018.

Luapula Province Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi has named the three arrested as Prince Chinyanta who was charged with Rape and Aggravated Robbery, Sydney Musongole, who was charged with theft and Ephraim Kombe charged with Robbery.

He said the suspects have been charged with Escape from lawful custody contrary to section 119 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Chushi has noted that a man hunt has continued for the remaining 12, further appealing to the public with information that would lead to arrest of the suspects to report to Police.

On Saturday, around 00:20, 17 suspects escaped from lawful custody at Mansa Central Police.

It is alleged that the incident happened when Police opened cells doors to detain a suspect who was brought in for the offence of Conduct Likely to Cause  breach of peace.

Police in the process gunned down one suspect who later died and wounded two others who managed to escape.

However, one of the suspects identified as Isaac Nkazi was brought back to the Police Station by his father Sydney Nkazi.

Twelve more suspects are still at large.
