The upgrading of informal settlement areas is aimed at promoting local development and supplementing Government’s efforts aimed at empowering the underprivileged Zambians to own pieces of land.

Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda said the approval pending Ministry of Local Government’s go ahead before engaging Medeem Zambia to start the project.

The identified areas are Misaka, Fisenge, Twashuka, Buntungwa and Kamuchanga informal settlement areas to be used as a pilot during the upgrade.

“For the production of survey documents (site plans) residents will be required to pay a small fee for each parcel and to the local authority for the generation of occupancy licence for a single parcel,’’ he said.
