AU Top Brass Raises Flag on Anti-China Crusade

Press statement

For Immediate Release

African Union Member States have expressed concern at the negative perception of Chinese cooperation with Africa.

The Members States are concerned at what they called BASHING OF CHINESE COOPERATION WITH AFRICA from some sectors of the media and some western countries.

The African Union Member States voiced this concern during a forum to review some of the resolutions of the 3rd Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) that was themed a New Blue Print for a Win-win Cooperation and Common Development.

The African Countries want the African Union to come up with stringent measures to curb the negative perception that China is slowly colonizing Africa through its massive investment on the continent.

Responding to the concerns, Adviser on Strategic Partnerships to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr.Nadine Elhakim said China had brought a lot to the African continent than any other partners.

She said China took the risk of long term investment in Africa when other partners thought doing so was risky.

Dr. Elhakim said China was the only partner that had developed a business model on infrastructure as it had a realisation that no meaningful development could be achieved in Africa with poor infrastructure.

She said Africa was in need of in excess of 100 billion dollars for infrastructure and that China has offered a share of these funds to improve infrastructure in Africa states.

Dr.Elhakim said the partnership between China and Africa will also see more trade between China and the continent.

And Head of Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the African Union, Ambassador Lui Yuxi said the China Africa partnership was different as it was built on mutual respect and assistance.

He said unlike other partners, China had resolved not to get involved in any African Country’s internal affairs but strictly limit its partnership to development.

Mr.Yuxi said China Africa relations were built on Win Win cooperation where both Africa and China could mutually benefit from the partnership.

He said China does not want to colonise any African State as has been insinuated but wants to mainly exchange its technological knowhow with African States in order to transform lives.

Mr.Yuxi said China had concentrated on infrastructure development that included the construction of roads and Airports in some African states as it was a belief in China that building roads were a sure way of accelerating economic growth. “This planet has more than 6 billion people and China will not allow people to wallow in poverty. That is why we are ready to give what we have and share with the rest of humanity, ‘’he said.

And Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Her Excellency,  Ms. Susan Sikaneta said Africa including Zambia holds the partnership with China in high esteem.

She said China had proved that it was an all whether Friend to the African continent. She recalled how in the early years of Zambia’s independence the Smith regime and the hostile Apartheid regime throttled the Zambian economy by blocking the route of the Indian Ocean in the South. This was all because of Zambia’s support of the liberation struggle and the fight against apartheid.

The Ambassador said President Kaunda and President Nyerere considered alternative routes to the sea which Zambian needed as an economic lifetime.

She recalled that the west appeared willing but were not ready to help unlike China who understood and appreciated the need for this lifeline and was willing and ready to help.

‘’China funded one billion dollars and constructed the Tazara which helped Zambia’s economic development.  We should thank God for the lifelong friendship between China and Zambia and the entire continent of Africa,’’ she said.

The Ambassador said the negative narratives and condemnation of Chinese investment were most unfortunate as China had proved that its vision was to develop Africa through mutual benefit for both Africa and China.

She also praised China for supporting Africa‘s peace Agenda by providing peace funding and some security equipment to the Africa stand by Force in Cameroon.

The Ambassador noted that there could not be any meaningful development on the continent in the absence of peace.

She said AU Flagship programmes such as Agenda 2063 could only be achieved through a peaceful and stable Africa.

And Zimbabwe Deputy Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mrs. Winipeg Moyo said the negative publicity and perception about the China Africa partnership was making the citizenry in many African states to criticise their governments over the cooperation between the two.

She said it was important for African States to do more sensitization because the citizenry were being misled by those who did not want China to trade with Africa.

Speaking at the same function, President of the Board of Trustees of Centre for Dialogue, Research and Cooperation, CDRC President Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin said China’s policy of non-interference in African countries internal affairs and china’s preference to complement Africa’s development within the framework of win win cooperation and mutual benefits laid a foundation that could not be broken.

He said the importance of the china Africa relations should be seen in light of the political, economic, financial, diplomatic and social benefits it brings to the people of China and Africa.

He said there were no political strings attached to development assistance that China provided to the continent and this stands in stark contrasts to historical injustices Africa suffered for several generations.

There is no problem with the China-africa investment especially in Zambia. The problem for Chinese investment as in Zambia has no any problem, the problem is with the ruling 😈😈😈PF😈😈😯😯 government which is continuously stilling zambian’s money in the name of awarding contracts to the Chinese contractor’s……they use the name of contracts to pocket money meant for poor Zambians.

AFRICA-CHINA RELATIONSHIP.African leaders are driving down it’s own people by awarding contracts to China at a very high cost, not only that but also getting loans from china in orders for them to practice RED TAPE CORRUPTION.Zambia has benefited alot from china a relationship which started a long way back in it’s early years of zambia’s iindependence,Madam Her Excellency Ms Sikaneta you’ve outlined it very well, but our major concern is how Africa government implementing policies regard to chinese. These Chinese have entered zambia in huge numbers in each and every sector Chinese are they, many business have been taken away from indigenous zambia’s by chinese. Here in zambia chinese have open up alot of shops even in our community offering goods and services that can be done by zambia people, not only that but also increasing criminal activities recently in the mining province copperbelt chinese are fighting with their workers in chinese mining companies poor working condition, low salaries which is given to them in hands not withdrawing from banks. In that same region a chinese man shot a lady on her leg and the case has taken long to be judged,if it me and other zambia it would take less than a week.In lusaka zambian capital city these chinese by started even making counterfeit money both notes and coins which has lead to them(chinese buying our lands and driving expensive vehicles,in the tourist capital chinese have been involving themselves into Felonies crimes killing of wildlife animals, recently chinese killed two rhinos and found without horns with is very expensive and on demand in CHINA’S BLACK MARKET,this killing of wild life has lead to training of ignorant zambia with full ARMED WEAPONS,and giving uniforms resemble’s to zambia’s wildlife authority (ZAWA).My question is that are African leaders blind enough to see how criminal chinese are?……..In agriculture sector chinese are taking merit from us by exporting our our indigenous tress like Zambia’s MUKULA to china even Honey production,in area where Mukula is found they is no proper as well good infrastructure system lacking better road,no improved health centers,no good quality education for locals, and in some schools within teachers and learners have inadquent table and desks as well learning materials even writing books which come from our own tress. We as a country why can’t we sit-down chinese to start producting something from and export them as finished good to international market including china rather than export law materials, indeed china is benefiting more to our continent Africa, that’s the way why china has focused much in partnering with Africa, for Western countries to be concern it’s because they want to see Africa as a continent with good peace loving people back to zambia we citizen want to see a BETTER,PROSPEROUS NATION with China as friend for ever by making sure that majority of us benefiting much from this partnership not benefiting one-side.AFRICA A BLESSED CONTINENT,ZAMBIA A PEACEFULLY COUNTRY as well BLESSED NATION.

  13. Hammer

Wonder shall never end. Someone brings money to build you roads and infrastructure and you are attacking them . Ask your self a question . Before you turn to them what was your status, another question those are unmovable infrastructure meaning the Chinese can never take them to China. They are ours . The white man is scared of the Win Win status . He knows how rich Africa is and wants a Me Only Win status . He who have ears please listen . Even USA has loans from China, can the critics also include those loans in their debate .

I can see a Chinese contesting a presidential seat in s/Africa beyond 2020
