MFEZ 54 Megawatts Solar Plant Nears Completion

Construction works of the $60 million, 54 megawatts solar plant at the Lusaka Multi Facility Economic Zone (LMFEZ) have reached 80% completion.

The round one Scaling Solar project which is an investment partnership between the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and Neoen of France, once completed, is expected to supply ZESCO with record cheap energy at 6 cents per kilowatt hour for 25 years.

Speaking after touring the construction site at the LMFEZ, IDC Group CEO Mateyo Kaluba, said the Corporation will continue to roll out the solar project until the targeted 600 megawatt is achieved.

He further revealed the next projects are earmarked for Central, Eastern and Copperbelt provinces.

Kaluba said the project has so far created 850 jobs of which 600 were Zambians.

This is the way to go. You can even borrow for such projects as they will pay back themselves. Not the so called presidential jet.
