The officers Veronica Shawa, Mike Kapale and two others named Lyton Mwale and James Ngulube have been placed on their defence after the court established a premafacie case against them.
High Court Judge Mwila Kombe put the accused on their defence when the matter came up today.
The matter has been adjourned to February 18, 2019.
In this matter Sergeant Choongwa, 34, a flight sergeant is alleged to have been brutally beaten by other inmates led by a detained police officer in the cell where he was locked up at Woodlands Stadium.
Choongwa was dragged to Woodlands Police Station after fighting with another patron at a bar in Nyumba Yanga.
The ZAF officer allegedly scratched the car of the other patron leading to an altercation.
The accused were initially charged with murder but this was later reduced to manslaughter.
