A senior court clerk identified as Didie Kangwa is facing a theft of cocaine charge worth K1.8 million.
The specific brand of cocaine he is alleged to have stolen is named Ephedrine.
When the matter came up today, Kangwa was granted granted a K10,000 cash bail but remains in custody as some of the charges he is facing in another court are non-bailable.
In the other court he is facing another theft charge involving 24 Kilograms of cocaine.
Kangwa and three others are facing three counts of abuse of authority, removal of property under lawful seizure and stealing by persons in public service.
Other accused are suspended Magistrate Kinda Tantameni ,Felix Mkandawire, a court interpreter, Francis Mphanza, a senior public prosecutor.
It is alleged in the first count that Tantameni and Mphanza on November 8, 2017, used the position of their respective offices to obtain property, profit or benefit for themselves or another .
In the second count, it is alleged that Mkandawire, Mphanza and Kangwa in the same month knowingly and with intent to hinder or defeat the process, concealed 34.0 kilograms of ephedrine valued at K1, 870. 000.
The ephedrine was taken under the process of authority of the court of Tantameni.
In the third count, it is alleged that Mkandawire, Mphanza, Tantameni and Kangwa between November 8 last year and December 30, last year stole 34. 0 kilograms of ephedrine.
The drugs which are a Government property came into their possession by virtue of their employment.
The matter has been adjourned to next year on dates to be advised.
