The Mraket has been constructed as a replacement of the gutted Buseko Market.
Apart from the K1.5 million spent on construction the traders that lost goods in the inferno have been given a K 316,000 donation as start-up capital for their businesses.
In July this year, Buteko Market was gutted destroying property worthy thousands of Kwacha.
As an immediate measure, government stepped in and engaged Mopani Copper Mines to construct a new market at Malela which has now been completed and will accommodate 336 traders.
Chief Executive Officer Chris Vermeulen handed over the facility top Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe while a dummy cheque of K 316,000 was handed over to District Commissioner Hildah Kawesha as an empowerment initiative for the marketeers.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe said Mopani has shown true partnership with government as evidenced from its commitment to contribute to the Country’s economic growth.
